Sobriety calculator

Free sobriety calculator: pick your quit date and see exactly how many days, weeks, and months you have been alcohol-free.

Pick your start date to see your number.

A sobriety calculator counts the exact time between the date you stopped drinking and today. Enter your quit date and this free tool shows the total in days, weeks, months, and years alcohol-free, instantly, in your browser. Also known as a days sober calculator or a sobriety counter, the math is the same: it's calendar arithmetic, not an estimate.

Use this sobriety calculator to see exactly how much time has passed since you stopped drinking, in days, full weeks, and calendar months and years. It runs entirely in your browser, stores nothing, and works whether your start date was last Thursday or fifteen years ago.

Which sobriety calculator fits your question?

The tool above answers "how long have I been alcohol-free." If your question is more specific, pick the variant below.

How the sobriety counter calculates your days

The number of full alcohol-free days equals floor((today − startDate) / 86,400,000 ms), with both dates normalised to UTC midnight so the count doesn't shift when you cross a time zone. Months and years are walked by calendar (same day-of-month each step) rather than divided by a fixed length, so the milestone dates feel right.

Sobriety calculator: questions people ask

How do I calculate how long I have been sober?

Subtract your start date from today. This calculator does it for you: pick the day you stopped drinking and you will see the exact number of days, plus a breakdown into weeks, months, and years.

Does the sobriety calculator count partial days?

No. It counts whole days completed since your start date. If you set today as your start date, the counter reads 0, today is day one in progress, not day one complete.

Is the sobriety calculator accurate?

The math is exact. It is simple date arithmetic, normalised to UTC so the count does not change when you cross time zones. Accuracy depends only on the start date you enter.

What if I had a slip, when do I reset the date?

That is your call. Some people reset to the most recent day they did not drink; others keep the original date and treat the slip as part of the journey. There is no universal rule. The calculator simply reflects whatever start date you choose.

What is the difference between sober and alcohol-free?

On this site we use them interchangeably for time without alcohol. Some recovery traditions use sober more broadly to mean abstinent from all mood-altering substances. Pick whichever word fits your story; the number is the same.

Can I save my sober count so it does not reset?

This calculator does not store anything, bookmark the page and re-enter the date, or use the alcohol-free days counter on this site, which remembers your start date in your browser. For a persistent counter on iOS, the embr app does the same thing offline.
