Alcohol-free days counter
Free alcohol-free days counter that remembers your start date in your browser. Set it once, come back any time, and your running count is waiting.
An alcohol-free days counter tracks the number of whole days that have passed since you stopped drinking. Unlike a one-off calculator, this counter remembers the start date you enter, so you can close the tab and come back days, weeks, or months later to find your running count waiting. Nothing leaves your browser.
This alcohol-free days counter is a date calculator with one extra trick: it remembers what you typed. Your start date is saved in your browser's local storage on this device. Nothing is sent anywhere. Bookmark the page; every time you open it, the count is up to date.
How this counter works
The day count is
floor((today − startDate) / 86,400,000 ms), with both
dates normalised to UTC midnight. Once you pick a date, the page
writes a single entry to your browser:
{ "version": 1, "startDate": "YYYY-MM-DD" }. That's
everything stored. It is local to this browser on this device, no
account, no sync, no copy on a server.
The Reset counter button removes that entry. Clearing your browser's site data for sobriety-calculator.com does the same thing.
Full formulas live on the methodology page; our storage and privacy posture is on the privacy page.
Alcohol-free days counter: questions people ask
How does the alcohol-free days counter remember my start date?
It writes a single small entry to your browser's local storage - only on your device. The entry contains nothing more than your start date and a version number. Nothing is sent to a server.
Will my counter sync between devices?
No. Local storage is per-browser and per-device. If you want a counter that follows you across devices, the embr iOS app is the same idea with iCloud sync.
How do I reset the alcohol-free days counter?
Use the Reset counter button below the count. That clears your stored start date from this browser. Alternatively, clear the site data for sobriety-calculator.com in your browser settings.
What happens if I clear my browser data?
Your stored start date is removed. The page still works, you just have to enter the date again. We recommend writing it down somewhere outside the browser as a backup.
Is the counter private?
Yes. Your start date never leaves your browser. There is no login, no cookie, no account, and no server-side copy. The site's analytics (Plausible) does not record what you typed, only that the page was loaded.
Does the counter work offline?
Once the page has loaded once, the math runs entirely in your browser. If you load the page while offline and you have already visited before, your browser's cache and local storage make it work; otherwise, the page itself needs an initial network fetch.
